Time: Saturdays, 9:00am - 1:00pm (Rain or Shine)
Where: Pearl along the banks of the San Antonio River west of Full Goods.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the latest farmer's market treasures at Pearl Brewery on Saturday. I don't get to go every weekend (only been twice) and I sure don't wake up early enough for the demonstrations, but someday I'll resist the temptation to let laziness get the better of me. So now that I've been there twice, I'm an expert at everything it has to offer..........ahem........
Great Finds: Sol Y Luna Baking Co. booth. These guys should probably bring a mop and bucket to wipe up the drool as foodies pass their booth....but then again they might need it back at their bakery on De Zavala Rd. Mom bought the blueberry-looking danish thingy, a Cornbread cheese biscuit and slice of Artichoke and feta pizza (YUMMO! to all three! superior products!)
My purchases: (.....not quite as exciting but better for you) a beautiful, colorful, organic and fresh head of romaine lettuce and crisp radishes AND whole grass-fed beef heart. For those wondering what the hell I'm doing buying beef heart at the farmer's market, cease with the judgment! Beef heart is delicious if made correctly! J makes it pretty well and it has now become a family favorite. Stay tuned for the recipe.....
Other options we didn't buy but are saving for next time: Olive-made goods like oils, soaps and dips; grass-fed bison and lamb, fresh cheeses, herbs and mushrooms.
We strolled around the market soaking in the crisp weather, the smiling faces, the soothing music and the cute furry four-legged creatures as they passed by. L managed to chalk up her clean outfit with the sidewalk chalks they had out for kids......someday I'll learn..... It's a neat outing if you can muster the energy to wake up before 9am on a Saturday morning.
